Breman Asikuma, (C/R), June 30, GNA - A four-day workshop organised by the Coastal Network Consortium, University of Cape Coast, has taken place at Breman Asikuma, with a call on District Assemblies to make investment as one of their sources of revenue mobilization.
Two hundred participants were drawn from the Assembly, the Area/Town Councils and the Unit Committees. The workshop is under the theme: "District Development Fund (DDE) Functional and Organizational Assessments Tool".
Topics treated included the District Assembly Concept, Accounting Software, Financial Management, Roles and Responsibilities of Sub-Committees in the Assembly, Roles and Responsibilities of Area/Town Council and Unit Committees.
Mr Edward Amarteifio, Lecturer, School of Business , University of Cape Coast, who made the call, said apart from acquiring interest on investments, the investor's interest must also be protected.
He said investment served as security for the future, and provided future for the family, children and the District.
Touching on the roles of Urban, Area, Town Councils and Unit Committees, Mr Amarteifio said it was their responsibility to ensure sustainability and balanced development of their respective areas through efficient planning, co-ordination, implementation and monitoring of development programmes in close collaboration with the electorate.
He said it was their responsibility also to help to generate funds for development.
The Presiding Member, Mr Anthony K. Amoako, appealed to the participants to put into practice the knowledge gained at the course.
The participants pledged to execute their roles and responsibilities and called for the District Assembly's support.
