...as woman throws baby into pit
The Anambra State Police Pommand has registered significant achievement in the area of crime fighting in the state. The police Commissioner who paraded 15 suspects before journalists yesterday said that the command is forging a new partnership with citizens of the state with the hope of letting them play a role in the fight against crime.

Of the 15 suspects, while eight were arrested in relation to kidnappings, two for unlawful murder of their relatives and five others were arrested for armed robbery related cases which happened at various times, in and around the state.

One of the two murder suspects, Mr Nwankwo Nnabuogu, about 50 years old, an indigene of Umunagu village in Achalla according to the State Police Commissioner, Mr Philemon Leha unlawfully matcheted to death his wife, Mrs Adanma Nnabuogu who is aged 40 years for allegedly stealing his money.

According to the CP, Nnabuogu confessed to the crime, saying that his wife stole his N130,000 which he planned to use in the purchase of a motorcycle, only to elope with a younger lover, before he caught her with the man after they both attended church service.

The suspect who latter spoke with Ukpakareports.com when he was paraded before the press told journalists that he acted out of annoyance. Behaving and acting a little deranged person, the over 50 years old man stated that his wife was the cause of everything as he is fond of provoking him. He spoke further that it was not his intention to kill her, but to give her a matchet cut that would teach her a lesson.

It was however gathered that Nnabuogu matcheted his wife with the sole intention of killing her as he cut off her both hands from the ankle and her both legs from the knees, leaving her trunk to bleed until her eventual death.

Police operatives who arrested the man, who is also said to be very deep in mystic practice went in for another surprise when they stormed his Achalla home to take him. He was said to have used his fingers to rip open his bowel, throwing out his intestine to the chagrin of the police officers, before they summoned up enough courage to 're-load' his intestine in his bowel and moved him to the hospital for treatment.

The suspect the commissioner said would be charged to court when he is fully recovered, just as he denied that he ripped his bowel open to avoid arrest, rather saying that he did not know what happened as he only found himself in the hospital with the scar later.

Similarly, another murder suspect, Miss Ozioma Ezeude on 3rd June threw her six months old baby into a toilet pit. She had confessed to the crime saying that her mother hated her so much because of the baby who was begotten outside wedlock.

According to her, she took-in for her brother after months of incestuous affair with him, and that since the delivery of the baby, her mother felt hatred for her for dragging the family name in the mud. Ozioma who decided to restore her mother's love once more by killing the baby was also said to have begotten another baby for the same brother, who is also said to be jobless and incapable of taking care of the baby and her mother.

Meanwhile, the Anambra State Colice Command has presented a brand new motorcycle to an okada man (name withheld) who last two weeks threw his bike in front of a moving vehicle to obstruct the movement of the car used by kidnappers to ferry their suspect to their hide out, delaying their movement before police operatives arrested them.

According to Leha, the act was very patriotic and since the motorcycle was damaged beyond repair, the command decided to undertake to replace it to encourage others to always report suspicious movements to the police. The motorcycle was handed over to the chairman of okada operators in the state.
