Franklin D. Roosevelt, 32nd President of the United States once said, “We cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can build our youth for the future.” In a competitive world as we live in, it is important that we put in more efforts in building our youth for the future. The future is unknown and it is when we build a youth that is discerning and ready to take up the challenge of this ever changing world that we can be hopeful that we have put the future of our country on a good pedal.

The mission of The Timeline Newspaper is to publish information on opportunities for the reading public especially the youth to take advantage to build themselves for the future. Most of our youth especially students in the second cycle and tertiary institutions do not know how to take advantage of the opportunity that The Timeline newspaper publish. It is therefore refreshing to know the huge interest the youths of Ghana have taken in The Scholarship and Talent Club.

The main aim of the club is to provide the platform for students to appreciate the education they are being given and to plan for higher education especially in taking advantages of the many opportunities that exist in higher education in Ghana and abroad. It is also an aim of the club to arm students with current and accurate information about opportunities in education so that they do not become victims of education fraudsters who are only interested in taking advantage of students.

Apart from emphasizing the importance of education in building up to face the challenges of the future, the members of the club would have the opportunity to learn about and participate in activities which enhances their talents, make them responsible citizens of Ghana, and aware of the importance of protecting our environment.

The School community, students and parents can benefit from the club in the following ways: (1) Members of the club will have access to current and accurate information on opportunities in higher education in Ghana and abroad. (2)The Club with support from its sponsoring institutions will make regular donations towards improving school facilities in areas such as the Libraries, Computer laboratory and internet to make it easy for students to have access to information. (3)The Club through the support of its sponsoring institutions will organize seminars for school counselors and teachers on writing recommendations and reports for students. (4) The Club shall seek sponsorship for developing the talent of members who have keen interest in areas such as sports, music, dance, etc by helping in the securing of equipment, kits, instruments and funding/sponsorships for the development of the talents of members. (5) In schools where international tests such as SAT, TOEFL, etc are not taught, members of the club shall be given discount and waivers by the Club's sponsoring institutions to aid members take advantage of scholarship opportunities. (6) In Schools where SAT, TOEFL are offered, the Club's sponsoring institutions shall assist the school build capacity in the area of teaching and assisting members take advantage of scholarship opportunities at reduced costs or even at no cost. (7) The Club shall sponsor all members who attain 6As in their final exams and who maintain a GPA of 3.5 and above on their transcript to take lessons and register for SAT. This is to encourage club members to study hard to achieve their aims. (8) All members of the club shall have the opportunity to undertake community service in the form of vacation jobs and volunteerism. These activities of members shall be documented and made available to admission committees of institutions which members apply for admissions. (9) Members shall undertake regular education tours and excursions in Ghana and abroad during school and vacations to develop their perspectives on education. (11) The club shall organize seminars and symposiums periodically on topics relevant to student development and the club through its sponsoring institutions shall bring seasoned experts to address issues that concerns students. (12) All registered members who regularly participate in the Club's activities shall be awarded a certificate signed by the Schools Patron and the National Patron and directors of sponsoring institutions as prove of participation in the activities of the club. The club shall also forward recommendations letters on behalf of such members to colleges, universities and funding organization to support members' application for admissions and funding.

Already, heads of schools who have the development of their students at heart have given support to the forming of the clubs in their schools. In some schools, teachers have taken the efforts to support the setting up of the club as because the see the Scholarship and Talent club is an avenue where students can be motivated to achieve greatness. Schools such Ideal College, Presbyterian Senior High Schools at La and Legon, Accra Senior High School, His Majesty Academy, Opoku Ware Senior High School, Prempeh Senior High School, T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School-Kumasi, Kumasi Secondary Technical School, Technology Senior High School are in the process of formalizing the formation of the club in their institution.

We appreciate the efforts of students, school administrators, parents, vendors, distributors and the media especially media personalities who continue to inform and review The Timeline. You are the heroes of a great cause and The Timeline can assure you that we will not only continue to write stories on opportunities but will assist our readers take advantage of the opportunities we write on through the Scholarship and Talent Club. Together, let us build our youth for the future.
