Tamale, May 28, GNA - The Humu-hati Foundation, with sponsorship from Stanbic Bank, Vodafone, GLICO and Coca cola, has renovated a three-classroom block and built a library at GH¢ 120,000.00 for the Nouri-Imam Primary School in the Tamale Metropolis.

The Project was initiated by Princess Humu-hati Mahama, a celebrated cyclist, when she undertook a bicycle ride last year from Accra to Tamale to raise funds for the Project.

Princess Mahama expressed her passion to support education, especially for the less privileged in society, and said this had motivated her to contribute her widow's mite to the cause.

Alhaji Haruna Friday, Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive, decried the high level of illiteracy in the Northern Region and said initiatives, such as the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) would help address the problem and also bridge the development gap between the North and the South.

He said the Metropolitan Assembly on its part, would allocate 30 percent of its resources for the development of education in the Metropolis, adding that the Assembly planned to build 18 primary schools and also provide 1000 dual desk to schools.

The MCE appealed to philanthropists to emulate the efforts of Princess Mahama's Foundation in providing social services to the people.
