The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has directed that henceforth people who give evidence to prove their royal lineage to a stool, must begin with the creation of the Asanteman Kingdom.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu pointed out that every royal family in Asanteman’ s royal lineage started from the day Nana Osei Tutu I ascended the golden stool, which Okomfo Anokye conjured from the skies and created Asanteman with.
This, he stressed, changed the history of Asante and also destroyed all other lineage before the golden stool came into being and therefore, cautioned all not to distort history.
“I have been watching and listening keenly when people give evidence before us and trace their royal lineage to a stool from Nana Obiri Yeboah’s era. I am making it clear to you now that every Asanteman royal lineage begins with Nana Osei Tutu I’s ascension to the golden stool and every royalty before then does not count. They were all destroyed,” Otumfuo declared.
The Asantehene gave the directive a meeting of Nananom of the Asanteman Traditional Council, to settle a chieftaincy dispute between royals of Kumawu Traditional Area, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
Otumfuo said it was unfortunate that lately, many people in Asanteman were not very conversant with the history of the creation of the golden stool and Asanteman, adding that even chiefs who were custodians of history, culture and traditions of their areas were not conversant with the history and traditions of the area.
What, he noted would solve the problem was for Nananom to learn the history, customs, as well as traditions of Asanteman and those of their respective areas.
In view of the development, Otumfuo Osei Tutu plans to set a day aside to educate Nananom of both the Asanteman Traditional Council and the Kumasi Traditional Council on the customs, traditions as well as the history of Asanteman and their individual towns and villages.
