I Will Not Destroy Any Colleague To Win - Alan

An aspiring New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate Mr Alan Kyerematen, has pledged not to tarnish the name and integrity of any of his colleagues contesting the presidential slot of the party, in his bid to become the presidential candidate of the party.

Rather, he has also advised the party to settle on him since the NPP would have to pick a candidate who would attract votes from the youth, floating voters and members of other political parties to complement that of the party to chalk up resounding victory in the next general election.

Mr Kyerematen, who was addressing polling station executive in Ablekuma Central Constituency in Accra at the end of a two-week tour of the Greater Accra Region to shore up support, described all other persons contesting for the position “as fine gentlemen who are all capable of leading the NPP”.

He said the NPP was currently in opposition and should listen to what voters, both NPP and non-NPP, were yearning for and present someone who could win the presidential election.

He added that most voters in Ghana and other parts of the world were craving for a youthful, vibrant, dynamic, affable, knowledgeable and attractive presidential candidate.

Mr Kyerematen said there were clear indications that nearly 70 per cent of voters in the 2012 elections would be below the age of 35 and would like to vote for a youthful person they could easily associate with.

He said most of these youthful people cared very little about the history of the party; all they want is a candidate who will represent their aspirations.

He described himself as a unifier who had at various times made supreme sacrifices for the sake of the party’s unity and urged the polling station executive to always ask those who claimed to be unifiers to prove it.

Giving his testimony as a unifier, Mr Kyerematen said during the 2007 Congress, although he had the opportunity to go for a second round with Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo, “I made the supreme sacrifice and conceded defeat for the sake of party unity.”

He said afterwards when people who were perceived to have supported him were being harassed, he opted to step aside so that the large number of his supporters whose votes were more important to the party, would not leave because of him.

Earlier Mr Kyerematen in the company of his team members exchanged pleasantries with pedestrians and shop owners at Abossey Okai.

Among the team members were Mr Kwabena Adjei Agyapong, former Spokesperson of President J.A. Kufuor; Mr Kofi Dzamasi, former Volta Regional Minister and Kofi Jumah, Member of Parliament for Asokwa.
