Another Shoaib Malik Appears!
09.04.2010 LISTEN

What is wrong with these Pakistanis, who are mostly appearing to be cricketers.

Just a couple of days back, Shoaib Malik's notorious case of cheating his first wife Ayesha Siddiqui was somehow settled after he divorced her. Now he is a free man to marry Sania Mirza.

If this shame was not enough, another Pakistani cricketer Mohammed Asif (27) hit the headlines. Apparently another Shoaib Malik has appeared on the scene. This first and second wife disease is quite prevalent among these cricketers.

Asif had married Pakistani actress and model, Veena Malik (30), on 28 May 2009, in a private ceremony in London. But Veena Malik denied that the marriage had taken place. Asif got married to his girl friend Sana Hilal on March 2, 2010 in Lahore, who was his family's choice.

Veena Malik has filed a lawsuit claiming Asif wrote bad cheques to pay back monies owed to her. It seems he had given her two cheques totalling Rs 11.3 million partial payment totalling Rs 18 million he owes her.

Surprisingly, Asif accused Veena of stealing the two cheques and that he had filed an FIR with the police. He also claims he doesn't owe her any money. He accused her of being revengeful and advised her to marry and settle down. Good, good. He wanted money from one but would marry only his family's choice. Did he take his family's permission to borrow money from Veena? There can't be two ways to run one's life.

This wouldn't have made news had Shoaib Malik not done something similar like lying and cheating earlier. Shoaib claimed not to have even met Ayesha Siddiqui but finally went on to DIVORCE her. Ayesha had had a miscarriage too. Instead of being by her side, he totally disowned her.

Had Ayesha and her family not been courageous enough to raise their voice against this cheat, matters would have gone unreported and uncared for. I am proud of Ayesha Siddiqui, who stood for her rights and didn't claim any monetary benefits.

So, Shoaib is now free to marry Sania. Must say, birds of a feather flock together. Sania deserves him. Why did she get engaged to Sohrab Mirza when she was carrying on with Shoaib Malik? Is it so easy to discard a betrothed/marital partner at one's whims and fancies? Can these two be let go scot-free? But their real test will come once they are married and face the marital challenges.

Shoaib was earlier dating Indian actor Sayali Bhagat and Pakistani Ambar. Imagine many other girls, whom he had dated/bedded but that have gone unreported.

Sania's challenges have already begun. A major company had cancelled her contract to endorse their brand. She has to appear before court in cases where she had shown disrespect to national flag and was sitting while the national anthem was being sung.

One must say, it is Ayesha Siddiqui, Sohrab Mirza and Veena Malik, who are lucky and have escaped with little. Who knows what may have happened in future. While our sympathies will always lie with Ayesha, Sohrab and Veena should thank their lucky stars that they didn't get married to indecisive partners.

Indians should heave a sigh of relief as Asif has contained his mental sickness in Pakistan only and not spread it in India like Shoaib Malik.

Asif is not new to controversy. Just like Malik, he has many cricket controversies both reported and unreported. In 2006 he tested positive for performance-enhancing substance Nandrolone and was suspended. In 2006 he had religious issues too when he complained of anti-Muslim bias. He had serious conflicts with another cricketer Shoaib Akhtar that led to spats and fights. In 2008 he was detained at Dubai airport on suspicion of possessing illegal drugs. In 2008 again it was revealed Asif had tested positive for banned substances. There was a ban on him and Delhi Dare Devils released him of his contract shortly before IPL.

If it could be of any solace, former West Indian cricketer Viv Richards (58) had a one-night stand with Indian actor Neena Gupta (50) that resulted in Masaba (21). Richards was already married to Miriam and had two children (Matara and Mali) at the time of this fling. He too escaped easily by offering monetary compensation.

Wish more courageous women like Ayesha Siddiqui and Veena Malik came forward and exposed such cheats. If such matters go unreported or are later suppressed, how can women get justice? Imagine, other unfortunate poor women, who are cheated but have no sources to report and be heard.

It is about time law was made more stringent in the case of such philanderers, who want to have their fun but would shy away from any responsibility towards their partners. Such men should be hanged till death for playing with the honour of women and treating them as mere play objects. This will serve as an example for other philanderers and they will think many times before 'playing' with women thinking law will never act against them.

Now that these two cases have become public, more skeletons will come out of other Pakistani cricketers' already over crowded cupboards.

Just in....
