Anas to speak at the United Nations

The New Crusading GUIDE's ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas has left Ghana for the United Nations, New York USA as a special panelist for the 2010 Commission on the Status of Women (CSW).

Anas would be presenting two special papers on the topics “Mass Marketing Prostitution: Sexual Exploitation as Entertainment and Without Demand There Would Be No Supply: How Men Can End Commercial Sexual Exploitation on March 3rd and March 5th, 2010 respectively.

He was invited by the Coalition Against Trafficking in Women International based on his numerous investigative works on human trafficking and sexual exploitation. The event will be taking place at the International Social Justice Commission of the Salvation Army in New York.

It would be recalled that Anas Aremeyaw Anas was recently commended by US President Barack Obama during his first major policy speech for Africa. President Obama described Anas as a “courageous journalist [Anas Aremeyaw Anas] who risked his life to report the truth”.

This invitation also follows an earlier recognition by the United States Department of State with the 2008 Hero Acting to End Modern-Day Slavery Award. “In appreciation for your bravery to go undercover and expose two trafficking rings, your undaunted assistance in the prosecution of the traffickers, and tremendous efforts to facilitate the rescue of Nigerian trafficking victims and children trafficked for prostitution, the US Department of State hereby names you a “Hero Acting to End Modern-Day Slavery,” the award stated.

Anas' efforts in anti-human trafficking and sexual exploitation culminated in his 2009 cross-border expose on the Chinese Sex Mafia, where three Chinese human traffickers were busted for trafficking young Chinese girls for sexual exploitation in Africa. The three Chinese Human traffickers were arraigned before a court in Ghana and sentenced to a total of 41 years imprisonment, while the trafficked victims were re-united with their families in China. Early on, Anas had done investigations leading to the rescuing of eighteen trafficked Nigerian girls, he had also worked as a laborer in a child prostitution brothel popularly known in Ghana as 'Soja Bar' where he gathered over 60 minors being sexually abused. His work led to the rescue of the minors.

About a week ago, Anas together with the anti-human trafficking Unit of the Ghana Police service rescued a twelve-year old Burkinabe boy who was trafficked from Burkina Faso to Enchie, a farming community in the western region of Ghana. Prior to the rescue, Anas, who went undercover [with a disguised identity] was arrested and detained through the manipulation of the alleged trafficker. The boy has since been re-united with his family in Burkina Faso.
