Another fire in Accra on Sunday morning prompted many to ask why the nation's capital has been suffering such outbreaks in recent times.

According to a Joy FM report, the early morning fire outbreak, which gutted the Ring Road branch of the Ecobank in the Fidelity House building, struck at about 5:30am yesterday, raising the tally of such disasters in Accra this year to a new level.

The bank is said to have lost office equipment and critical documents as a result of the fire whose cause is yet to be ascertained.

Watchmen noticed signs of the fire as early as 5:30 am yesterday and activated the necessary procedures when such occurrences take place.

The extent of the damage was not enough to stall banking activities which is confined to the floor that houses the administrative offices, leaving the treasury of the financial institution unscathed.

The official residence of ex-President Jerry John Rawlings was torched on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2010 and expectedly made headlines, as well as stirring political controversy.

Preceding that was the fire which torched the Accra Metropolitan Education Office which, like the bank's, was noticed by watchmen on the location.

The Tema Oil Refinery and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs both had their share of the Accra fire experience as well as the Ministry of Information which had experienced two fire outbreaks in less than a year.
