It is now official! Victor Emmanuel Smith, Director of Protocol at the Presidency is now Ghana's Ambassador to the Czech Republic. He received his credentials from His Excellency, President J.E.A Mills yesterday at the Castle, Osu.

Speaking to the Daily Post newspaper after receiving his credentials, Victor Smith said he will pursue the dream of President Mills while in Prague to enable his 'Better Ghana' agenda come into fruition. “I thank the President for reposing confidence in me. It will be my duty to seek the best for Ghana while in the Czech Republic.

"I shall comb the business community in Czech and get their businessmen and women of substance to come and invest in Ghana to create more job opportunities for our able-bodied young men and women”, he said.

Ambassador Smith said he will strengthen the already cordial relationship between Ghana the Czech Republic especially in the fields of agriculture, health, sports and technology. Victor Smith, until his appointment as director of Protocol at the Presidency was the special Assistance to former President Jerry John Rawlings.

He rose to national prominence during the heady days of the NPP rule when the Kufuor-led government launched attacks on Rawlings from all angles. He fearlessly resisted all attempts on Rawlings' life and thus became himself a target of destruction by the Kufuor-led government.

A staunch Mills supporter, he played a leading role in ensuring that Dr. Obed Asamoah is not retained as NDC National Chairman at the 2005 Koforidua congress of the NDC to blight the presidential ambition of Prof. Mills. Victor also played a pivotal role to get Prof Mills win the presidential slot of the NDC at its 2006 congress to lead the NDC in the 2008 elections. His appointment as Ghana's Ambassador to the Czech Republic marks a new period in his life, offering new challenges and new opportunities.
