Mankoadze (C/R), Feb 17, GNA - The Gomoa West District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Theophilus Aidoo-Mensah has commended Mr. Tom Yendell, a British national born without both arms for his contribution towards educating the Ghanaian youth.

Mr. Yendell, who performs with the feet and the mouth, has established a vocational skills college at Gomoa Mankoadze near Winneba with a British friend, Mr Roger Gillman.

Mr. Gillman and Mr Yendell are trustees to TEABAG, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) based in Britain which is financing the college.

Mr. Aidoo-Mensah appealed to Ghanaians who are physically challenged to emulate the example of Mr. Yendell who did not make the absence of both arms to affect his life.

The DCE made the commendation at the inauguration of the college at Mankoadze.

The college which is under the management of the Integrated Community Centre for Employable Skills (ICCES), offer catering and hospitality, building and construction, dressmaking and computing. The study of English, mathematics, entrepreneurial skills and Information Communication Technology (ICT) are compulsory at the college.

Mr. Yendell is also a tutor of the college.
Mr. Aidoo-Mensah advised the Department of Social Welfare to help the physically challenged in Ghana to acquire skills to make them self-supporting instead of beggars.

The DCE said the government was aware that the reason and end of education was the quality of human beings turned out.

Bearing this in mind, he said, the government was doing everything possible to give majority of Ghanaians quality education in its "better Ghana agenda".

He welcomed contributions of individuals and associations towards achieving this goal.

Mr. Aidoo-Mensah assured TEABAG of the support of the Assembly in making the project they had embarked on a success.

Mr. Gillman said the NGO was putting up additional classrooms for the college and commended the principal and staff on what the college had achieved in a short time.
