The South-West Sector Head of the Baptist Ghana Convention, Rev. Dr. Isaac Mills-Owoo, has made a passionate appeal to church leaders in the country, to join the fight against the drug menace.
He explained that if the fight against drugs and other social vices will be won, church and spiritual leaders have a role to play in it, because they are the solution to the inner transformation of people.
“I am convinced that the truth about the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the antidote to our social crisis, and a guarantee for future happiness,” he added, explaining that the current times in the world demanded that the Church combine social and spiritual ministries holistically, to create a better society for humanity.
Speaking after being installed Head of the South-West Baptist Ghana Convention in Cape Coast on Sunday, Rev. Dr. Mills-Owoo observed that societal laws, though essential for human co-existence, could not change human hearts, citing the over-populated prisons as an example of the fact that it is only the word of God and faith in Jesus Christ that could change the hearts of people.
He said Christian leaders should also encourage the privileged few to extend helping hands to the unfortunate ones in society to make them happy, saying the level of greed and selfishness among some government officials, and even men of God, seems to suggest that most of them have forgotten the golden rule of loving one's neighbour as themselves.
He took a swipe at the way various governments treated development in the Western Region, as the majority of the nation's resources in the area have not benefited the residents.
Rev. Mills-Owoo therefore appealed to the government to use part of the resources to develop the region.
He promised to live up to the expectations of the people, and called for financial assistance from his church members to uplift the church.
The General Secretary of the Baptist Ghana Convention, Rev. Kojo Amo, who inducted Rev. Mills-Owoo, called for support for the newly-inducted sector head, to enable him achieve the set target.
The President of the Ministers Conference of the Ghana Baptist Convention, Rev. Samuel Otu-Pimpong, urged Rev. Mills-Owoo to always seek God's guidance in all his endeavours.
