Kumasi, Jan. 13, GNA - The Assemblies of God Church, Ghana, has built a Rehabilitation Centre for drug addicts at Anwomaso, a suburb of Kumasi.
It would provide clinical therapy, psychological and spiritual services to those addicted to narcotic drugs, leading to their integration into society.
The Reverend David Kofi Owusu Boateng, Ashanti Regional Director in-charge of substance abuse ministry, who inaugurated the Centre, said the project was the church's contribution towards saving people from ruining their lives through drugs.
"Substance abuse in whatever form is destructive to the human body and inimical to socio-economic progress of society," he said.
He therefore called on Ghanaians, particularly the youth to stay away from drugs.
The Rev Boateng blamed the surge in social-vices to the misuse of hard drugs among the youth and said majority of them became susceptible to immoral behaviour under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
He appealed to the church to partner other civil society organizations to campaign against the drug menace.
The Reverend Paul Frimpong-Manso, Regional Superintendent of the Church, said the Centre would give counseling services to families of drug addicts to help them to manage them and prevent their situation from worsening.
