
NOTABLES WITHIN the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have thrown their weight behind in his quest to become the General Secretary of the party.
The Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Mike Oquaye, who is also MP for Dome Kwabenya, the NPP Regional Chairman for Brong Ahafo; Kwesi Adu-Gyan, former Ambassador to Japan; Dr. Barfuor Adjei Bawuah and Professor George Gyan Baffour, Member of Parliament for Wenchi and a former deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, on Monday gave a positive testament of , describing him as the best person to take over the General Secretary position of the party.
According to Prof. Oquaye, is an enviable fund raiser who was able to single-handedly raise $500, 000 to support Ghana's Golden Jubilee celebrations, and such fundraising skills would be of enormous importance to the NPP, especially since the party is in opposition.
The Second Deputy Speaker added that the General Secretary position ought to be occupied by someone who understands communication and is also a good administrator; two attributes Prof. Oquaye said has.
The various persons were speaking at the campaign launch of 's candidature.
Dr. Barfuor Adjei Bawuah said the NPP cannot have a better person than to become the next General Secretary.
“He is a particularly nice fellow and generally good looking…a political party grows on strategy, passion and the ability to think on one's feet. It is like a club and the General Secretary makes the cocktail…in looking for the best cocktail mixer, you cannot have a better person than the man sitting here; ”, he added.
Prof. Gyan Baffour said actually could have won the National Chairman position if he had decided to contest, and with him as General Secretary the party would be taking the right steps towards an electoral victory in 2012.
“I know him so well that whatever I say about him, people may say it is because of my relationship with him. But I know his capabilities of leading us to the Promised Land in 2012”, Prof. Baffour added.
The NPP Regional Chairman for Brong Ahafo, Kwesi Adu-Gyan, disclosed that it was due to the efforts of that the party increased its number of Parliamentary seats in the region at a time it was losing seats in all the other regions.
