Communications Minister Haruna Iddrisu says President Mills has announced that he wants a special cabinet session solely on job creation.

He noted that in view of this, the President has directed all his ministers to contribute to ameliorating the growing unemployment rate in the country.

He was speaking at the official launch of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) – ICT Module and the introduction of rLG branded phones assembled in Ghana.

rLG Communications, formerly known as Roagam Links Company Limited is a privately owned Ghanaian Company specialized in training the youth in the application of Information Communications Technology (ICT) in repairs, servicing and assembling of mobile phones, computers, laptops and other electronic equipments nationwide.

The company is to train about 6,000 Ghanaian youths under the NYEP to equip them to be self employed and employ others.

Currently, the company has assembled and branded seven different phones namely r5, r7, r8, r9, r40, r60 and r72.

The features of these phones range from normal and basic capabilities to complex ones like TV, FM, and various multimedia features, with prices from GH¢31 to GH¢120.

The communications minister lauded the ingenuity and creativity of rLG Communications, adding that “the context of this initiative, I must say, is to learn to use what is assembled locally in Ghana for the purpose of global telephony.”

According to the minister, government's focus in creating employment will largely be based on four main sectors of the economy, namely energy, ICT, agriculture as well as trade and industry.

This, he said, would be championed by the Youth and Sports Ministry.

Mr Iddrisu urged the various telecommunication companies in the country to use rLG phones in their promotional agenda, thereby, promoting the use of locally assembled phones by the Ghanaian public.

“I have no hesitation in recommending them that in the exercise of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), they(telecommunication companies) should accept an additional responsibility to use rLG phones in undertaking major promotional events,” he urged.

He pledged government's support to sustain the initiative financially and in any other way.
