Takoradi, Dec. 9, GNA - ABANTU for Development, a women's right advocacy organization, and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) at the weekend organized a Regional Consultative Forum on Climate Change for women at Takoradi.
The Forum was under the theme "Promoting Gender Responsiveness in Disaster Risk Management and Reduction".
The forum, which brought together women's groups, personnel from the security services, community based organizations, non-governmental organizations and other disaster management providers, was aimed at enhancing the understanding of the participants on climate change.
Speaking at the forum Mr Folley Jaluba, Coordinator of ABANTU for Development and NADMO Disaster Project, said women are most vulnerable to the effects of climate change.
He said the collaboration was an expression of the two organizations' commitment to the promotion of gender awareness and gender sensitive culture in climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction and ensuring that women play an active role in the process.
Mr Jaluba expressed the hope that the forum would increase the understanding of the participants of gender concern and needs in disaster risk reduction and to develop their capacity to address gender issues in disaster risk reduction.
He said the forum would strengthen the ability of participants to urge the government to take action to integrate gender perspectives into disaster risk reduction legislation, policies and programmes for sustainable development.
