WA, Dec. 6, GNA - SNV Netherlands Development Organization, a Dutch non-governmental organization (NGO), has launched a scheme to address socio-economic challenges facing people in the Upper West Region.
The NGO will focus on promotion of quality education, access to quality health and creation of income generating activities in the shea industry for vulnerable groups.
Mr. Amagoin Keita, Country Director of SNV, made this known at Wa during the official launch of the programme in the region.
He explained that the NGO's intervention would involve the provision of technical support to public and non-state actors engaged in education, health and the shea butter industry.
Mr. Keita expressed worry that the region lagged behind other areas of the country in education, literacy and social infrastructural facilities and called on the chiefs and people to support the NGO.
Mr. Kale Caesar, the Deputy Upper West Regional Minister, who officially launched the programme was hopeful that the NGO would assist facilitate the development of the area.
Mrs. Ernestina Sango, Acting Portfolio Coordinator of SNV, said the NGO had planned to work in all the nine districts in the region as well as the Bole-Bamboi and Sawla-Tuna-Kalba districts in the Northern region.
Reverend Professor Abraham Berinyuu, Dean of Students of the University for Development Studies, said the development challenges facing Northern Ghana required concerted efforts of all the people in the three Northern Regions.
