The 2008 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has sent a message of congratulations to His Excellency Kabral Blay Amihere, Ghana's former Ambassador to Sierra Leone and to La Cote d'Ivoire, on his election as Chairman of the National Media Commission (NMC).
In a statement released on Tuesday, 1 st December 2009, Nana Akufo-Addo recalled “the critical role that the Ghanaian media has played and continues to play in the consolidation of democracy in Ghana. It is entirely appropriate that you, who has been such a staunch champion of freedom and was, indeed, prepared to lay down your life in its defence during the dark days of military rule, should, today, have the responsibility of ensuring the independence and freedom of the Ghanaian media.
Like all who know you, I have no doubt about your ability to discharge this high responsibility with honour to the benefit of Ghanaian democracy and freedom.
The Ghanaian people are reassured by your election that the institution of National Media Commission will work impartially and objectively to uphold and advance the highest standards of journalistic practices in our country.
May God bless you, the members of the National Media Commission and the Ghanaian media.”
