NDC 2012 Fate HANGS

…Dangerously at Mfantsiman
Constituents of Mfantsiman West Constituency in the Central Region mainly Fantes have threatened to vote out the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) if the harsh economic conditions are not put right.

As a result, they have branded the Mills led-administration as a non-performing asset whose action could further deteriorate the living standards of Ghanaians and existing infrastructure in the country.

According to them, NDC will never win elections again in the constituency, adding that they have now woken up from their slumber.

These were revealed when this reporter took to the streets of the constituency to sample the views of people in the first ten months of the NDC government.

While many of the respondents registered their displeasure about the way and manner things were going, others also demanded that the government be given ample time to put things in shape.

Despite the mixed reactions, TODAY can report on authority that the Constituency is gradually swinging to the NPP.

Others, however, corroborated the views of the former President Jerry John Rawlings and Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah that the Mills government was lethargic and not assertive in dealing with issues bothering the nation.

Mr Frank Addo, 55, an educationist, expressing his opinions about the current turn of events chastised the NDC government for reneging on its promise of drastically reducing fuel prices during last year's electioneering campaign.

On that score, the former English Master at St. Augustine's College implored President Mills and his team to take the concerns of Ghanaians on that matter serious and address it accordingly.

“Sincerely speaking I have never seen such a deceitful and a populist government in my life before. I believe that the better the NDC listen to the cries of the people the better it will be for them in 2012,” asserted Mr Addo.

For her part, Mrs Felicia Asiedu, 75, and a renowned economist, swiftly dismissed comments that the government needed enough time to put Ghanaian economy back on track.

According to her, no serious minded government will appoint 'virtually inexperienced people' to manage relevant sectors such as the Information Ministry, Ministry of Tourism and the post of deputy Minister of Finance.

Making specific references to Mr Fiifi Kwettey, a deputy Finance Minister, Ms Juliana Azumah-Mensah and Mrs Zita Okai-Koi, Minister of Information and her two deputies, she said these people lack the relevant expertise at where they find themselves now, stressing that 'they are all surpluses to the requirements.'

Against this background, she beseeched President Mills to, as a matter of utmost importance, to restructure the entire government machinery, so as to ensure effective running of the country.

Earlier, members of the NPP had elected its Constituency executives of which Alhaji Ben Jibrine was elected as the Central Regional Organizer with his father Alhaji Jibrine Adams, wining the chairmanship position.

Justice Nana wontwi was elected as the 1st Vice Chairman while Lower Owusu won the 2nd Vice Chairmanship position.

Seth Nii Okia swept majority of the votes to become the constituency Youth Organizer while Ike Lord and Rita Ofori won the Organizer and Women's Organizer respectively.

Mrs Emelia Kissi and Joseph Bilson also became the new Treasurer and Secretary as well.

The election was supervised by the Central Regional Electoral Commission (EC) in a peaceful atmosphere.
