A founding member of Stanbic Bank Ghana Limited, Alhaji El-Aziz Fattau, has urged Ghanaians, especially the youth, to be tenacious in their quest to succeed in life.

He noted that without tenacity, Stanbic Bank would not have been a reality today given the “many obstacles that were put on my way”.

Alhaji El-Aziz Fattau was addressing participants of the about 16 kilomtres Health Walk at Aburi in the Eastern Region over the weekend organized by the bank as part of activities marking its 10th anniversary celebrations.

The over 200 participants, mainly staff and interested parties, trekked from the Ayi Mensah Police Station in the Greater Accra Region through Kitase, passing by the Peduase Lodge, through Gyankama and finally ending at the Aburi Botanic Gardens.

The founding father recounted how he and his two colleagues' ambition to establish a bank was doubted by many, including those who should have encouraged them: “And from that day I have taken a cue that in everybody's life, he should believe there is nothing impossible.”

“It is determination that has brought Stanbic at where we are today”, even at the Bank of Ghana, “they also said no, how do we give banking license to two fishermen.”

But through persistence, they conquered all hurdles, describing the 10 years existence of the bank as “a very good achievement”.

“So nobody should give up when you are pursuing a cause, there would be obstacles in the way…it was not easy when we started, we went through so many problems,” he advised.

Alhaji Fattau was full of praise for staff's diligence, particularly, the current managing director.

“When Mr Alhassan Andani took over as the Managing Director, within the shortest time, so many things started changing, and since, I say we have been moving forward in the very good direction.”

Mr Alhassan Andani noted that throughout the 10 years of its operation, the bank “had some fabulous years and some challenges”.

He however remarked, “the triumphs and failures” experienced by the bank over the years “are all lessons and we will pick up from there and carry on”.

Mrs Ernestina Danquah, HR Manager Consultancy Services, who started with the company in 1999 as a trainee, shared her experience and was grateful to God for the growth of the company from three to 21 branches.
