Several wooden structures at Avenor Junction in Accra were coincidentally razed down by fire on Thursday morning, a day earmarked by city authorities to demolish them.

The cause of the fire outbreak was immediately not known.
Joy FM's Yaw Ansu Gyeabour, reporting from the scene of fire, said personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service were at hand to put the fire under control.

He however feared, if not properly managed, the fire could spread to other permanent structures in the area.

Police personnel detail to supervise the intended demolition exercise and officers from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, the demolition authority, including its Mayor, Dr Alfred Vanderpuije, had to suspend the exercise for while to assist victims in salvaging their property.

More soon.
