Vice President Mahama was a guest of former African Heads of State, including John Agyekum Kufuor, attending the Club of Madrid Africa Progress Panel in Accra on Tuesday.
Mr Mahama who was the guest speaker at the forum also attended a dinner dance in honour of the visiting ex-presidents.
However, conspicuously missing from the list of respectable former leaders was former President Jerry John Rawlings. Even though Ghana is hosting the programme, Jerry, who is the 'senior prefect' for former leaders on the continent, was not at the function.
No official reason was given by the organizers for his absence, but the former President's spokesperson, Kofi Adams, said Rawlings was not invited to the event, even though he was a member.
The Club of Madrid is the largest forum of democratically elected former Heads of State and Government dedicated to the strengthening of democratic values around the world.
It has 70 former world leaders including Mr John Agyekum Kufour of Ghana, Mr Benjamin Mkapa of Tanzania and Mr Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria, who are participating in the roundtable.
The former Prime Minister of Jamaica, Mr Perceival James, is also attending.
