A 32-year-old man, , also known as Mohammed Kofi aka Jonas, is on the run and on the wanted list of the Ghana Police Service as a suspect in a case of assault and child abduction he is reportedly involved in.
A news release issued yesterday from the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service described the suspect as being fair in complexion and about 178 centimeters tall. He speaks Twi, Arabic, Chinese and Bahasa Malayu.
According to the release, the suspect got married to a Malaysian woman in Kuala Lumpur and had an issue with her, but after the couple returned to Ghana, the Malaysian woman realized that the suspect had another wife in Ghana who also happened to be a Malaysian.
The release said when the first wife confronted the suspect over the development, he got infuriated and assaulted her brutally to an extent that she was hospitalized for two weeks.
The news release, signed by ASP Freeman Tettey, the Public Relations Officer of DOVVSU, noted that “the Malaysian High Commission in Accra intervened and through series of negotiations, agreed to allow the complainant and her nine-month-old baby to leave Ghana for Malaysia”.
ASP Tettey narrated further that on her day of departure, the suspect and his second Malaysian wife ran away to an unknown place with the baby, but the baby had being recovered upon a tip off.
He said though three persons have been arrested in connection with the abduction of the baby, the whereabouts of the suspect remains unknown.
The release said any person with knowledge of the suspect's whereabouts should report him to the nearest police station.
