THE CRADLE of record label owners in the country, Ghana Association of Phonographic Industry (GAPI), is going to the polls on October 2, 2009 to elect a new board of trustees.
Ken Opoku Asiedu (His Majesty Music Production) and John Mensah Sarpong (JMS Records) are vying for the chairmanship position, while Hammond K. Odum and Kwasi Boateng are contesting to be the first vice chairman.
Seth Amponsah (Easyway Music), Kwabena Agyeman (KOB and Dee Music), Francis Boahen (Blazing Sun Music), David Opoku (Global Disk Music), and Nana Yaw Amoako (Nayas Music) are contesting unopposed for the second vice chairmanship, general and deputy secretaryship, finance and national organizer positions respectively.
According to a press release issued and signed by Yaw Oxbon for the election committee, the up-coming election has been made possible through the tireless efforts of the election committee, put in place by the general assembly to oversee the smooth organization of the election which will be supervised by the Electoral Commission.
A painstaking exercise to screen prospective members in good standing ended on September 25, 2009. Eighty four members have been certified to exercise their franchise.
The new board of trustees will run the association for the next two years.
