Fuel Situation Worsens In Brong Ahafo

PIECES OF information gathered by DAILY GUIDE from most parts of the Brong Ahafo Region have painted a gloomy picture about the fuel situation in the region, which has almost brought all activities in the region to a standstill.

According to our reliable sources, in all the twenty-two municipal and districts in the region, fuel stations have run out of stock for petrol for almost a week now, a situation which has brought some essential economic activities in the region to a halt since all commercial vehicles have been grounded.

As at Saturday, only one fuel station in the capital, Sunyani, had some stock of petrol where drivers were found scrambling, resulting in intermittent scuffles.

However, the situation was different on Monday during the time of our visit as the station had also run short of fuel. Most fuel stations this reporter visited were empty.  

DAILY GUIDE'S further checks at the various government institutions, departments and agencies on Monday morning established that workers were late to work. At about 8.30am when this reporter visited the various offices, most of them were locked.

Some workers told this paper that they had difficulty getting taxis from their communities to their offices. They therefore called on the President to take an immediate step to address the fuel situation in the country since it could seriously affect productivity in the entire country.

Meanwhile, some market women in the Techiman area have threatened to hit the streets if President Atta Mills' NDC government fails to address the fuel and gas shortages that have hit the area in recent times.

The traders claimed their activities have been badly hit by the petrol shortage since they can no longer get trucks to go the farmlands to cart farm produce to the market centres.
