The Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI) has reduced its levy from 55 percent to 25 in order to attract more businesses and to boost the Ghanaian economy.
These were disclosed by the General Secretary of GNCCI, Sal Doe Amegavie, at the re-launch of the association in Cape Coast.
According to him, there was the need for the GNCCI to reduce its levy to enable the registration of private owned small and medium businesses and industries.
He said: “We must ensure that the association attains its objectives of helping businesses grow in the area.”
The General Secretary of GNCCI further advised executives of the association to work hard to support the policies of government.
Mr. Amegavie promised his outfit commitment in promoting businesses to improve the lives of the people in the region.
The Central Regional Minister, Madam Ama Benyiwa Doe, in an address, said: “The Association will have to harness and promote businesses to create jobs for the unemployed youth and reduce poverty in the country.”
Madam Benyiwa Doe revealed that both the indigenous and foreign businesses have the responsibility to maintain and improve the economy.
Government, she noted, intends to promote the development of the private sector by expanding existing industries and businesses.
“The Chamber, which is a world-wide association of business operators, firms and industries, must foster closer relations with other stakeholders to learn some useful lessons,” she added.
The Central Regional Minister charged businessmen to avoid negative tendencies such as arrogance, intolerance, lack of transparency, character assassination, and apathy.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Nkawkaw, Seth Adjei Baah, who is also the Vice President of GNCCI, maintained that there was the need for the chamber to connect with industries through strategic alliances, joint ventures and distributor relationships.
He pledged his outfit commitment in promoting the interest of companies and organizations that were engaged in investment, trade, commerce, agriculture and manufacturing in the country.
