President Mills leaves for New York to address UN

Accra, Sept. 22, GNA- President John Evans Atta Mills left Accra on Monday to the US, where he would engage in a number of activities including an address to the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN).

The President who is expected back home on October 4, will have a meeting with the Secretary General of the UN, Mr Ban Ki Moon in New York.

A statement issued by Mr Mahama Ayariga, Presidential Spokes person said whilst in New York, President Mills will participate in a meeting with the US President, Barack Obama and Heads of States of countries contributing troops to the United Nations on September 23.

The same day he will hold a meeting with Prime Minister Gordon Brown of the United Kingdom and the President of the World Bank.

The statement said on September 24, President Mills will address the General Assembly of the United Nations after, which he would be hosted to a luncheon of members of the Ghanaian and American business community in New York and the Bank of America.

In the evening he will meet and interact with members of the Ghanaian community in New York.

The President and his delegation will also attend the South America-Africa Summit in Venezuela from September 26 to September 27 and return to Washington DC on the September 28 and hold meetings with the President of the World Bank on September 29.

The statement said he would also meet with members of the Ghanaian community in Washington DC then on September 30, he will participate in the America-Africa Business Summit organised by the Corporate Council of America.

The President will depart from Washington DC on the October 1 and arrive in Accra on October 4 after a brief stop in the United Kingdom.

The Government delegation is made up of 15 officials including staff of the Office of the President, Ministers of State and staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.
