The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology is considering privatizing some of its operations to enable the institution to fully concentrate on its core and traditional role as a science and technology university.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Kwasi Adarkwa, made this known at the inauguration of the University's Council in Kumasi.

According to him, the university is faced with several serious challenges, the major one being the inability of the authorities to secure enough funding to support teaching and learning, research and community engagement.

Prof. Adarkwa noted that the university is currently undertaking 15 physical projects which are at various levels of completion. These projects, he explained have been prioritized due to the problem of insufficient funding.

He however expressed satisfaction with the constitution and eventual inauguration of university's Council, which he noted, was being formally inducted into office for the first time in the University's history.

Prof. Adarkwa expressed the hope that the University administration would now function effectively to address some of its constraints.

The Chairman of the Council, P. V Obeng entreated members to give their best, saying with the numerous challenges of the university, the council has no time to waste.

There is also the need for closer collaboration with management to guarantee success.
