The Tema Mantse, Nii Adjei Kraku, has urged operators of health facilities in the Tema Traditional Area to take steps to control illegal abortion in the Metropolis. He has also called on the Tema Metropolitan Directorate of Health and the private health centers to educate residents on the dangers of abortion to prevent abortion related deaths. He said illegal abortion performed by some private health facilities is a serious health problem in some parts of the traditional area, stressing the need for stakeholders to device strategies to curb the practice.
Nii Adjei Kraku said this when staff of a private health facility, Crystal Health Service paid a courtesy call on him at his palace in Tema Manhean. The workers used the occasion to officially invite him to the inauguration of a new clinic at Tema Community Eight.
Nii Kraku said it is the desire of the Traditional Council that no woman dies through pregnancy related complications. He therefore charged health care providers to work hard to reduce child mortality and improve upon maternal health in the communities within which they operate.
The Medical Director of the Crystal Health Services, Dr. Wisdom Amegbletor, said the facility will collaborate with the Traditional Council and other stakeholders to provide the health care needs of the people.
