Ketu South and North urged to bar children from adult activities

Aflao, July 31, GNA – Mr. Sam Tumaku, District Director of Education for Ketu South and Ketu North, has called on communities and parents in the two districts to ban their children from attending wake-keeping and watching morally bankrupt films and materials.

He said the increasing teenage pregnancy in the two districts was an affront to the communities, parents, opinion leaders who must exercise their responsibilities.

Mr. Tumaku was speaking at the second speech and prize giving day of Preventive Basic School in Aflao on Wednesday under the theme “promoting quality education, our concern”.

He commended teachers and pupils of the school for their excellent academic performance and said communities have the duty to help schools solve nagging problems despite the introduction of the capitation grant.

Mr. Felix Sevor, Headmaster of the school, said it scored 100 per cent pass in the 2008 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) making it the best among public schools in the Ketu South District.

He said two pupils from the school were among the best 200 in the national Coca Cola essay competition last year.

Mr. Sevour said the school needed a canteen, place of convenience and improved infrastructure.

About 40 teachers and pupils were awarded for their hard work.
