The Volta Regional Minster, Joseph Amenowode, has asked the Regional Youth Council to build its capacity to enable it to reach youth organisations and mobilise them towards national development.
“You must be working towards mobilising the youth to ensure they have future,” Mr. Amenowode said at a regional dialogue Federation of Youth Associations in the region and the Regional Co-ordinating Council at Ho on Friday.
It was on the theme, ‘The youth forging ahead in development alongside the Co-ordinating Council’.
Mr. Amenowode emphasised that officials of the council were to reach out to the youth and see them as partners in development.
He said that a comprehensive youth policy would soon be outlined to enable the youth to participate actively in the governance of the society.
“You must make yourselves available to ensure your relevance in society,” he stressed.
Regrettably, the Regional Minister said, the youth were being misguided by foreign influencies which was misdirecting their talents.
Mr. Amenowode urged civil society to partner government towards training them into responsible adults ready to take up the mantle of leadership.
Mr. Ransford Octoo, the Regional Coordinator, said the youth councils were to create opportunities to develop plans that would pave the way for them to take challenges associated with leadership roles.
“Challenges facing the youth to take up leadership role are enormous due to lack of resources, workforce and logistics, hence the inability of the council to achieve its objectives over the years” and appealed to the government for support.
Mr. Fedelis Attoh, Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education, urged the federation not to relent in its efforts to play critical roles in nation building by ensuring that they operate within the confines of freedom, justice, accountability and probity and earn responsibility and respect in society.
