VODAFONE, A MULTI-national telecommunication giant, has added 800,000 people to its customer base in nine weeks of its operations in Ghana.
The company, after acquiring 70 percent majority shares of Ghana Telecom, has grown its customer based from 1.7million in April to 2.5million in June.
Albert Don-Chebe, Head of Corporate Communications, who disclosed this at a media encounter in Sunyani, said the company has been working hard to bring its international experience and globally-acclaimed products and services to its Ghanaian customers.
According to him, since the launch of Vodafone in Ghana on April 14, this year, has injected healthy competition and dynamism into the telecommunication industry, where the customer can now make the best choice out of the lot.
Major Don-Chebe (retd) noted that Vodafone has become the fastest growing company and the world's largest telecommunication company as it now operates in over 31 countries with more than 300million customers.
Vodafone, in its bid to be the market leader in Ghana, is undergoing rigorous processes, expansion and quality utilization among a host of activities. This has resulted in significant improvements in its services.
“As a result of all these activities, we have made a great improvement in our services, increased roaming traffic and added new voice and data destinations,” he explained.
The Head of Corporate Communications added that fault resolution time has also been enhanced significantly while corporate business is showing strong growth.
Within the last two months, over 7,000 direct and indirect jobs in sales and distribution have been created throughout the country, while 14 regional distributors have also been employed to ensure availability of the company's products nationwide.
Management has also launched, the 'Wednesday Red Day', 'Stock big', 'Grow big', and 'Win big Promotions to offer very attractive prizes and services to their cherished customers.
Mr. Don-Chebe, identified the company's greatest threat to quality services, as the stealing of its underground-cyber optic cables and called for the support of the media to lead a crusade against it.
The Brong Ahafo Regional Manager of the company, Prempeh Agyemang Agyekum, said Vodafone's expansion project was being threatened by people he termed “saboteurs”, who cut and steal their cyber optic, underground cables.
He stated that five cases have been reported at Techiman and Kintampo within a year. He therefore, called on the general public to volunteer information to cause the arrest of the people behind it.
