A pilot training programme for private schools titled, ‘Developing skills in financial and credit management for private school owners’ is underway in Accra.
It is being sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and The Mitchell Group Incorporated (TMG).
The programme which has attrated over 100 heads of private schools in the country, seeks to empower private schools with skills that will enable them to raise funds with relative ease for the effective running of their schools.
It also seeks to equip the heads with the kind of expertise they need to run the schools more effectively and professionally.
Baba Donatus Anaba, Project Coordinator for TMG, said a recent survey carried out by the Group and USAID, showed that several private schools in the country, especially those in deprived communities, lacked infrastructure such as good libraries, Information Communication Technology, facilities among others, which were crucial to the appropriate development of school children.
He said it was also discovered that those schools lacked the ability to raise the needed funds for these very important facilities.
Baba Anaba said the long-term aim of the programme was to help improve upon the quality of education in the country.
He said after this pilot project which is being held in Accra, the programme would be repeated in the other regions of the country in the years ahead.
Topics being treated by participants include records keeping, credit and finance management, preparing a bank table business plan, among others.
This year’s programme has been divided into four sessions with a different batch of participants taking part in each.
The first session was held in May, 2009 and the second June, 2009.
The third and fourth would be held in September and November 2009 respectively. Source: Times Reporter - The Ghanaian Times
