WA offices of DVLA to embark on outreach registration programme

Wa, July 4, GNA- The Wa Regional office of Driver and Vehicle Licensing

Authority in collaboration with the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council

would, in the next few weeks embark on outreach programmes to register

vehicles and educate owners on the dangers of using vehicles without valid

documentation.
This is because most vehicle owners in other districts of the region were not

willing to travel to the regional capital to register their vehicles coupled with lack

of district offices of the Authority in the region.

Mr. Joseph Clifford Obosu, Upper West Regional Licensing Officer who

disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Wa said

the move was also to encourage more people to register their vehicles in the

region and to generate more revenue for the Authority.

He said the Authority had, from January to June this year registered about

2,500 motorcycles and hoped to register more than 3000 motorcycles alone by

the end of the year.
Mr. Obosu noted that while owners of four wheel vehicles were more

compliant, most owners of motorbikes were not ready to either renew their

registration or register them for the first time.
"My brother, you will not believe that since the authority changed motorcycle

number plates only few people in the region have come to the office to go

through the normal procedure of registering with the new numbers," he said.

The Licensing officer added that, because there were no district offices apart

from the regional office at Wa, most vehicle owners in the region took advantage  Continued
