The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has lunched a passionate appeal to development partners, both at home and abroad, to support government efforts in ensuring quality education in the country.

According to him, the government alone could not shoulder the development of education, particularly Information Communication Technology (ICT), in the country without the support of selfless and social development -oriented non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

“Guardians, parents and philanthropist in our communities should also complement the efforts of the government and school authorities, by creating an enabling learning environment through the provision of modern equipment to enhance the study of Information Technology,” he stressed.

He made the appeal at a brief, but colorful, dedication ceremony of 20 Del desktop computers and accessories donated to the Klo-Agogo Senior High School by Planting Technology International (PTI), at the school premises.

He intimated that with the current trend of globalisation, ICT has become the engine of growth, and it is in recognition of this that the government had placed premium towards its development.

He explained that the new education reform places emphasis on science, technology and ICT as critical tools for mainstreaming the country into the fast developing global world.

Mr. Ampofo reiterated that the presentation of the computers by PTI to the school showed that NGOs and other development partners appreciate the fact that the government alone could not provide all the resources and infrastructure facilities that were required for convenient teaching and learning in the education sector.

To the students, the Regional Minister urged them to make maximum use of the computers for their academic work, as well as handling the facilities with maximum care.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Yilo Krobo Assembly, Mr. Andrews Sodah, on his part, asked the authorities and students of the school to ensure effective and efficient maintenance of the equipment, in order to guarantee their lifespan.

Giving a brief background of the PTI, the Planting Group Ghana Representative, Mr. Stephen Djaba, said the PTI was a United States of America (USA) based NGO that specialises in the procurement of computers and equipment to promote ICT education and interment access in rural communities of Ghana.

By working together with, and providing the initial resources to these communities, he stated that his office supports and empowers them to solve their technological resources constraints by creating a sustainable ICT plan that best suits the needs of their community.

He further mentioned that the PTI aims to change the technological landscape of Africa, one village at a time, by creating ICT centers, bringing resources, advancement, education and most importantly hope to the forgotten rural poor.
