The life and death of Michael Jackson, any Lessons?

Headlines all over the world have been dominated by the death of Wako Jacko or Michael Jackson. Irrespective of all the controversies which surrounded his being; one thing is for sure, he knew how to exert himself in his time and won the hearts of many.

Many a time, superstars who take up show business create a façade of only popularity, wealth and happiness. However, many fail to highlight the emotional and psychological challenges which confront them on a daily basis. In a sense everyone is talking about Michael Jackson as a fallen hero, but do you know what challenges he battled with? How can other stars especially in Ghana learn from the life of the Moon Walker? How can Ghanaian stars survive the fast moving showbiz industry and leave a legacy many would be proud of?

One fact which cannot be overstated is the power of knowing who you are! It might seem basic but trust me, if you are ignorant of who you really are; confusion and a lack of direction becomes common to you (it is not uncommon to see many stars trying their hands at many things without perfecting any).

I must add that knowing who you are is not merely about the food you like, the colour you appreciate, what you dislike and so on. What drives your personality as a star? Do you know why you either feel drained or energetic when many fans mob you? Why do you seem to have a subtle competition and personality conflict with that other star?

Why do you often resort to shades and drinks to boost your confidence when in the midst of a crowd?

The showbiz industry is one of stress, personality clashes, conflicts, and little time; as such there is need for every star and up and coming star to thoroughly understand his or her personality type as well as that of others. A professional assessment of personality types has many advantages; Greater understanding of self, improved communication skills, enhanced understanding of others which would help reduce conflicts, improved time management (time is money), and identifying the jobs that gives satisfaction.

It is not uncommon to see many stars in Ghana whose careers seem to be inconsistent whiles others excel with the least exposure. As much as many factors account for this; a lack of understanding of who they are, what their personality can help them excel in best, and how they can go about this is key. A careful assessment of one's personality type can swiftly enhance a career change in the showbiz industry. The musician today could possibly be the next director Ghana has been looking for.

Knowing who you are as a star would educate you on your weaknesses and strengths. You would make informed decisions which would be to your benefit in the long run. What's more, if you know more about your time skills, you would be able to adopt measures which would prevent a waste of precious Ghana Cedis in lost time.

One of the most widely used personality assessment tools in the world is the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI®). This easy but highly effective assessment tool has helped many individuals around the globe to identify their true personality types, understand those they work with, and deal with conflicts in a matured and effective way. MBTI® provides detailed understanding of the 'driving forces' of personalities and aides in looking at personalities in a positive light; persons who undergo this personality testing are in a better position to understand themselves and others with the view to managing differences.

It is high time Ghanaian stars became aware of their strengths and weaknesses and tailored their career to their advantage; instead of plunging into a diverse industry which has the potential to make or unmake anyone who ventures without a plan. Talent and perseverance is no longer enough if you would succeed in the showbiz industry. As many stars come and go; seek to learn from their experiences, know who you are and plan your career towards your strengths.
