3 Or 4 Years At SHS: Govt Awaits Report

The government has expressed its commitment to ensure that all recommendations reached at the just ended National Education Forum on the duration of the Senior High School Programme are implemented.

It said although no concrete consensus regarding the number of years was reached, there was considerable consensus  regarding the necessary inputs that could bring about qualitative education delivery in the country.

The Minister  of Education, Alex Tettey-Enyo, said this in a speech read on his behalf at the 6th graduation ceremony and speech and Prize-Giving Day of the Galaxy International School in Accra.

The Minister congratulated the school for ensuring cultural diversity as the pupils are from different  cultural backgrounds from across the world.

He was also happy that the school has represented the country in a number of international competitions and won medals.

The Minister appealed to parents to pay serious attention to the discipline of their children, and not only concentrate on paying their school fees.

He  observed that whenever discipline  was found to be at its lowest ebb, “moral decadence sets in, which  eventually erodes the sense of  commitment  required to develop their careers”.

Mr Tettey-Enyo particularly referred to the high incidence of occultism in the country and called for collaborative efforts to address it.

Mr Tamer Kirca, General Manager of the school said the school currently had 500 students from 58 different countries.

He said the school was committed to inculcating in the students the principles of sound moral upbringing.

Mr Kirca said the school this year represented Ghana in a song competition in Turkey where they emerged the best in Africa.

The ceremony was used to award  pupils  and teachers of the school for their excellent performance and contribution to the success of the school.

He said the school had introduced a mathematics competition for pupils in primary five and six to demystify the perception that maths is a difficult subject.

Mr Kirca indicated that the strength of the school was its ability to give opportunity to its students to either pursue the British or Ghanaians systems.
