Kwaebibirem, (E/R), June 30, GNA - The Kwaebibirem District Assembly on Tuesday failed to elect a presiding member after two rounds of voting.
In the first round, Mr Kwaku Ofori Abrokwah, an administrator, polled 33 votes as against 18 by Miss Christiana Bediako, a teacher, with 26 spoilt ballots.
The second round was no different with Mr Abrokwah getting 34 votes and Miss Bediako securing 19 votes with 24 spoilt ballots.
After the first round, the Eastern Regional Deputy Minister, Mr Baba Jamal, admonished members to endeavour to elect a presiding member without delay since the assembly business could not be put on hold.
He asked them not to do anything that could destroy or retard the development of the district but that advice fell on death ears as members followed the earlier pattern in the second round of voting.
A new date will be set for another election.
