Hohoe, June 16, GNA- Prosper Sekyere, 24, a resident of New Ayoma in the Hohoe Municipality is being held by the Divisional Police for allegedly stealing a two- year old kindergarten pupil.

Mr Anthony Darkey, Divisional Crime Officer, who briefed the Ghana News Agency about the incident at Hohoe, said Sekyere was rescued from the grips of an irate mob who had wanted to lynch him.

Mr Darkey said a bystander saw Sekyere scaling a bamboo fence with the victim into a maize farm and became suspicious.

Just when the bystander was contemplating what action to take, the owner of the farm emerged and both of them gave Sekyere a chase.

Mr Darkey said the suspect was arrested with the assistance of neighbours while the victim managed to trace her way back home.

He said one of the victim's playmates had earlier reported the incident to her grandmother who did not take it seriously, until she heard announcements on a local radio station to that effect.

Mr Darkey said during Police interrogation, Sekyere said he saw the child weeping in the vicinity and asked her to accompany him to attend to nature's call, rather than leaving her to her fate.

He said Sekyere would be arraigned soon.
