Management of an NGO builds a computer laboratory for orphanage

Kasoa, June 16, GNA – Management of Students Bridging the Information Gap (SBIG), a US-based NGO, at the weekend inaugurated a computer laboratory and library estimated at 50,000 dollars for the inmates of Good Shepherd Orphanage at Kasoa in the Central Region.

It donated 18 desktop computers, a laptop computer, a laser printer, an LCD projector, a battery pack, furniture and books to help the inmates and other children build on their knowledge through reading.

Mr Tom Killian, President of SBIG, said the world was now in an Information, Communication Technology age and in order to be effective in the increasingly technology driven economy, every child should be given the opportunity to learn and develop skills in the new field.

He said SBIG was an organization that harnessed the humanitarian interests of students, corporate and faith-based partners and other civic groups to support fellow students in less-developed countries.

Mr Killian said management had set up a local advisory committee to operate the computer laboratory.
