Agona Swedru, June 2, GNA - The Agona West Municipal Assembly has
denied rumours that it was disbursing 250 billion cedis granted by the
government to assist small and medium scale industries.
Mr. Michael Obeng, Municipal Finance Officer, stated this at a news briefing
at Agona Swedru in the Central Region on Monday.
He noted that some people in the Municipality had been asked to deposit
various sums with banks to enable them to access loans under the so-called
scheme.
The Municipal Finance Officer expressed the Assembly's disgust about
the rumour and said it would not sit down unconcerned, especially now that a
new Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Felix Jacob Obeng-Forson, had just
assumed office.
He cautioned the public, especially operators of small and medium scale
industries, to be wary of people who would approach them to make deposits to
access loans from the Assembly.
The Municipal Finance Officer said the Assembly would inform the public
whenever any facility was available for their benefit and asked the people to
cross check information about financial schemes from the appropriate quarters
before making any commitment.
This, he said, would help prevent them from being defrauded.
