Some Ghanaian students in Russia have been stranded following government's delay in the payment of their scholarship allowances.
Kofi Mensah, 21, a third year Engineering student in a distress call to Myjoyonline said the $300-monthly allowance has not been paid since January 2009.
The delay, he said, has made life unbearable for the students, and they risk being sacked from their various institutions for failing to pay their fees.
According to him, the situation has been compounded by the Russian law which prevents foreigners from working.
He said several attempts at getting Ghana's Embassy in Russia to come to their rescue have proved futile, as embassy officials insist the allowances will be made available once government pays them.
The situation, Mr. Mensah lamented has left them in serious debts and do not know how long they will be able to cope under the circumstances.
He appealed to government to hasten payment of the arrears in order to reduce the suffering they are going through.

I am also a "Petroleum Eng" scholarship student and we are so shocked by the government's disappointment. How do they expect us to live when even money can't be transfered from Ghana to us in Russia just because Ghana is a third world country. We plea to the right authorities to amicably solve this problem before it becomes too late. Thank you
