The people of Dorfor- Adidome in the Volta Region have celebrated their Sixth Dzrafedo-Za festival with a call on the citizens to actively support the development of the area.

The festival was instituted in 2003 to raise funds to facilitate the development of the area.

This year's festival was aimed at raising funds to construct a multi-purpose community development centre, and extend electricity to the local junior high school.

Addressing the people, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Mr Charles Hodogbey, entreated the citizens both in and outside the country, to assist in the development of the area.

He said the government alone could not develop the area, saying that it behoved the well-to-do citizens of the area to support the development agenda of the town.

Touching on education, Mr Hodogbey entreated parents to invest in their children's education instead of spending lavishly on funerals.

He said education  is an important tool to unlocking the potential of the children in the area, saying these potentials was needed to facilitate the development of the area.

Mr Hodogbey announced that plans were far advanced to improve the road infrastructure in the area, stressing that the work on the Mafi-Adidome and Juapong road would soon begin.

The MP appealed to the government to divide the North Tongu District to ensure equitable distribution of resources for the people in the area.

He commended the people for voting the NDC government into power and said the government would work assiduously to redeem the confidence reposed in the party.

Pastor Nelson Gedzah of the Christ Is the Same Church who preached the sermon reminded the citizens of the investment the community had made in them and told  them to continuously assist the community.

Pastor Gedzah advised the people to remain united, stressing that “it is only through unity that you can achieve total development”.

Dr Mawuena Kofi Afudego who chaired the programme entreated the people to shun what he described as “I don't care attitude”, and support development projects in the area.

An appeal for funds yielded  GH¢4, 000.
