The new Kasoa Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Jordan Quaye has urged neighbourhood watchdog committees, operating in the Awutu-Senya District, to register with the District Police Command, to ensure sanity in their operations.

DSP Quaye said Neighbourhood Committees cannot operate in isolation, but should work with the police especially during night patrols in accordance with the concept on the formation of the committees.

DSP Quaye said these in a press statement in Winneba on Tuesday.

The Police Commander has therefore directed that all Neighbourhood Committee in existence at Kasoa should contact the district police commander for briefing on their legitimate mode of patrols, their roles, responsibilities and areas of operation.

According to DSP Quaye information reaching the Command indicates that some Committee members wear police uniforms, badges, fake police logo or its semblance.

The Police Commander however warned that apart from Police personnel, “no one or organisation is authorized by law to wear police uniform or use police personnel insignia.

He reminded members of Neighbourhood Watch Committees to note that by their concept they are not supposed to carry fire arms in their operation but should always undertake joint police operation to ensure adequate security for them.

DSP Quaye said recently some members of a Neighbourhood Watch Committee in the area were attacked by some suspects they confronted at dawn, resulting in some injuries because they were not armed.
