President John Evans Atta Mills on Saturday inspected some ongoing and completed projects in the Cape Coast Metropolis to ascertain for himself the level of progress made on them so far.

They include some GETFUND sponsored projects at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) and Cape Coast Polytechnic (C-Poly). Others are the UCC Medical School Laboratory, Cape Coast Stadium Project and UCC new Administration block under construction.

He was met at the UCC Medical School Laboratory by Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, UCC Vice Chancellor, who called for more financial assistance to the University.

President Mills on his inspection of the Stadium, asked the contractor to expand the capacity from 15,000 to 25,000 so as to enable international matches to be played there. “If it can be done, then it must be done now”, he said, in response to the contractor's comments that the stadium capacity was 15,000.

He also asked the contractor, Nana Kisi, to include all the athletic facilities to allow students from the basic, second cycle and tertiary institutions to hold comprehensive sporting activities in the stadium.

The contractor, for his part, said Cape Coast Stadium was the only one with track and field facilities, and that the expansion will attract additional cost.

at the Polytechnic and University gave the law and economics professor a rousing welcome as they mobbed him on his arrival to their places, as well as in his rounds.

People ran to some of the project sites, on hearing that he was visiting those places.

From Cape Coast, Prof. Mills paid a surprise visit to Elmina, where he interacted with the fishing community.

Nana Jojo Solomon, Elmina Chief Fisherman, thanked Prof. Mills for visiting them, describing the gesture as the first in the history of fishermen to have a sitting President in their midst, at the landing beach.
