Minister inspects road network in Koforidua… And orders immediate maintenance of bad ones

The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, has directed the New Juaben Municipal Director in charge of Urban Roads, Mr. Isaac Amarh, to immediately award the portion of road between the Nsukwao traffic lights and the main road leading to Asokore - both towns are suburbs of Koforidua the capital of the region - to a contractor before the rains set in.

He made the directives when he inspected the area, to assess the state of the road networks last Tuesday.

The paper gathered that the move by the Minister was as a result of complaints about the bad nature of the road, by both commercial and private drivers, who ply the road.

It was clear during the visit, that the road needs immediate attention, in order to save drivers and other road users from any future calamity.

Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo, later in the day, also inspected ongoing construction work on the Koforidua Polytechnic to the main Koforidua-Accra road, on the East, and Koforidua-Suhum on the South.

He assured residents of the Regional Co-ordinating Council's (RCC's) commitment to complete any ongoing road construction, and effect repair works on the bad ones, in order to enhance easy transportation.

Mr. Amarh, on his part, assured the Minister of his outfit's preparedness to ensure that all roads network in the municipality were in good condition before the rains set in.

The Regional Director of the NRSC, Mr. Stephen Anokye, called on drivers and other road users to adhere to road safety regulations, in order to reduce road accidents in the country.
