Reverend Sister Veronica Adomako-Manu, Assistant Headmistress of Prince of Peace Girls' Senor High School (SHS), on Friday said it was paramount that students became familiar with the tenets of the 1992 Constitution.
She emphasized that this would not only help them to be well-informed on the nation's democratic process, but would also enable them to know their rights and responsibilities as citizens.
Rev. Sister Adomako-Manu, a member of the Daughters of the Most Blessed Trinity of the Kumasi Catholic Archdiocese, said this at the opening of the Zone Two National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) sponsored Constitution Game Quiz Competition in Kumasi on Thursday.
The annual competition, which was to equip students with the principles of the Constitution, was won by the Adventist Girls (SHS) at Ntonso in the Kwabre District.
The fist runner-up was the Dwamena Akenten SHS at Offinso while the Prince of Peace in Kumasi became the second runner-up.
The Adventist Girls and Dwamena Akenten have therefore qualified to represent the zone in the Region's inter-zones competition that comes off on March 12, 2009 to select two schools to represent Ashanti region.
Mr Yaw Oppong-Fosu, Kwabre District Director of the NCCE, who announced the results of the competition, advised the participants to educate their colleagues, friends and parents on the importance of the Constitution.
Nana Kwanti Barima, Kumasi Metropolitan Field Officer of the Commission, urged the students to learn the rules of the competition very well so that they could perform well in the next stage of the competition.
