NGO, PTA constructs school block for community

Architect Without Borders, a Spanish non-governmental organisation, in collaboration with the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) of Christ The King Cathedral schools in Sunyani, have constructed an eight-unit classroom block comprising a kindergarten, primary

and a junior high school for the institution.
The school complex, with offices, a counselling centre, store rooms and staff/teachers common room, was built with the support of the Franciscan community in Sunyani.

It is sited in the same vicinity as the old school and accommodates about 2000 school children.

The NGO provided 80 per cent of the funds whilst parents contributed 20

per cent towards the project.
At an emergency PTA meeting held in Sunyani to inaugurate the new school complex (St. Patrick's) and officially welcome the students and pupils into

the school, Mr. Mensah Yeboah, PTA Chairman, commended the parents for their assistance and asked for their continued support for the third phase of the project.

Father Martino Corrazino, Project Coordinator said so far a total of GHC450,000 had been expended on the first and second phases of the three phase project, estimated at GHC 1,200,000.

He said work on the third and final phase would comprise the putting up of block walls around the school, a canteen, a place of convenience and a borehole, adding the old classroom blocks would be razed down and the site used for future development.

Bishop Matthew Gyamfi of Sunyani Diocese thanked the parents and teachers, Father Corrazino and Very Reverend Father Richard Kyeremeh, Cathedral Minister, for their support to the project.

He urged the parents to endeavour to pay their PTA dues and levies regularly to promote quality education delivery.

Addressing a gathering of students and parents, Mr. Gyamfi Ameyaw, Sunyani Municipal Coordinating Director, urged the students to let the construction of the new edifice motivate them to study hard and cautioned parents to refrain from investing in funerals and rather focus on investing in their children's education.

He welcomed the contributions of the church toward the socio-economic development of the state.

The Bishop later went round to sanctify the new classroom blocks with holy water.
