A 25,000-dollar
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centre with
computers for the visually impaired has been inaugurated at Okuapeman
School at Akropong-Akuapem.
The Christian Blair Butterworth ICT Centre, is in honour of Mr Blair
Butterworth, a former Peace Corp Volunteer who served as Assistant
Headmaster of the school from 1963-1964 and instrumental in the
establishment of the centre.
It was jointly financed by Mr Blair, some past students and the
Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of the school.
Inaugurating the centre, Mr Blair expressed appreciation to those
who contributed towards making the idea conceived in 2007 when he
visited the school with his children to become a reality.
He said technology was changing the world fast and with the centre,
the students could be abreast with society.
Mr Fred Labi, an ICT Consultant and an old student of the school
said with the centre, the school now had wireless internet connectivity
on its compound.
Osabarima Ansa Sasraku, Mafihene, urged the students to take their
ICT education serious to compete for jobs on the international market.
