The Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Suame Constituency Honorable Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonus has underscored the need to strength the security operations in Parliament.

He said Parliament as the third arm of government, requires the ensurance of enough security, provided for Members of the House to enable them go about  their duties without fear.

Hon Mensah-Bonsu revealed this at the sixth sitting of parliament in Accra, yesterday. These concerns are as a results of  the unfortunate happenings on the 15th of January, when the attention of the Estate Department was drawn for the replacement of the seat of the Minority Leader in his chamber, due to the removal of the holding system of the seat with crude lead fabrication.

Hon Mensah-Bonsu described the incident as unfortunate and called on the leadership of the House to institute a committee to investigate the matter.

On his part, the Majority Leader Hon Alban Bagbin noted that the situation is a threat to Members and there is the need to ensure that adequate measures are taken to curb such act.

He requested a thorough investigation at the Estate Department and the need to beef up security inside and outside parliament.

The Member for Bantama constituency, Mrs Cecila Dapaah entreated the leadership of Parliament to see it as a threat to members and called for immediate investigation.
